As a To Spitaki guest you'll be treated each morning to delicious homemade jams, cookies and cake made with loving care and natural ingredients by Mrs. Stella in order to enjoy a delicious breakfast in the beautiful courtyard. To Spitaki can host up to 17 persons in all units for two or more days, weeks or months. The Captain's House is a spacious 250 sq m, corner, three-storehouse built in 1850 for one of the shipowners who developed the historic port of Galaxidi into an architectural urban treasure in which you can immerse today. It offers breathtaking views of the Parnassos mountain and the ski center, of the picturesque port built with ancient fortification stones, the forest, the tiled roofs and the beautiful gardens of the village. Fully air conditioned, with two fireplaces it welcomes you all year round. The small distance of 70 m from the quay guarantees easy access to the beaches, the restaurants and stores and very peaceful surroundings. The UPPER LEVEL, "averto" in local terms, is a bright, high ceiling, open space living room of 80 sq m with four large windows and two balcony doors on 3 sides that allow unrestrained view of sea, mountains and the village. It was the space in which the shipowners had sails sown and dried. Two stretching rings from that era remain on the east wall. -It is furnished with a traditional dining table in front of the fireplace, a Murano chandelier, a Venetian mirror, and a simple mixture of traditional and modern furniture and stylish decoration that render it a beautiful living space for up to 15 people. -Cable television and a sound system to enjoy seated in the comfortable sofas and armchairs -Two balconies on the east and west side offer open air sitting space with breathtaking view and alternating sunny and shady conditions. -The NW corner of the upper level is a closed 15 sq m bedroom with 2 windows, an iron frame double bed and closet. The traditional staircase gives access to a stylish bathroom off the MEZZANINE LEVEL The MAIN LEVEL of 100 sq m, high ceiling has access to the street on the W side through the large stone arched door and to the garden and lower level on the E side. - It comprises two spacious bedrooms with traditional furniture and closets. The bedroom on the SW corner has a traditional fireplace. Each bedroom has a large window with Mediterranean shutters for shade and they are very bright. -The fully equipped kitchen is partly located under the staircase, it is full of light through the large window that opens to the street. It was located over the cistern collecting rainwater for the dry summers of Galaxidi. A hand pump brought the water to the kitchen. Today high quality water is piped in and contributes to the greening of the town. -The dining room setting for eight people is very impressively traditionally furnished and very bright with a large window and balcony door. -A television set is also installed. The LOWER LEVEL is a designer's dream. It used to accommodate the cistern carved in the rock and a grape press. It was rearranged into a self contained apartment with entrance through the internal yard and independent access to the street. Part of the rock is left visible. Carved stone and marble sinks have been fitted to the lovely kitchen and bathroom -A lovely bedroom with a large window, three single beds of iron frame and closets is on the left of the entrance. -The sitting / dining / kitchen room comprises a stone bench, stone arch, fully equipped kitchen, large table for six persons, cable TV and cushy armchairs. The old tap for the cistern drain is still in its original place. -A huge bathroom with a large open shower in the corner of the rock wall with the carved stone sink and the exquisite decoration inspires one to live in. -The stable temperature of the rock makes it a very pleasant living space all year round and the modern heating and air-conditioning that was installed at the renovation seems superfluous. -A television set is installed. The GARDEN is an oasis between the building and the street constantly photographed by the passers-by. -It is full of plants: an old olive tree, lemon trees, bitter orange trees, bougainvilleas of this garden and neighboring gardens that climb all the the way to the top of the third floor and a huge variety of flowers such as jasmines, roses, daisies, gazia geraniums and seasonal flowers creating a secluded green space that is in flowers and full of aroma all year round. -A large natural stone table for 10 people with a stone bench on one side creates an ideal place for dining in the open air and shaded garden. Discrete lighting makes it a dream place for the summer nights. To Spitaki is located in the center of Galaxidi. Several small super markets, green grocers, a bakery, café, wine & sweet shop, bank and post are just across the small street. It's just a short walk to the port where you'll find numerous tavernas and cafés. Buses to Galaxidi are available several times a day from Athens, Delphi, and Patras. It is just a short 2-minute walk from the central platia in Galaxidi to To Spitaki. Galaxidi History A city with a rich history of 4.000 years, an intense naval past and a dynamic present. The city΄s name is directly related to the history of Greek shipping. Its fame as a naval centre begun during the 18th century with the manufacturing of commercial as well as passenger boats in local careenages, which later became popular around the Mediterranean sea. For many decades, Galaxidian sailors dominated most regional marine transports. In 1813 Galaxidi was already the fourth biggest harbour of Greece in naval and commercial activity. Important masters of the naval art, found themselves in this historical city, who later undertook the initiative for the foundation of a distinctive Naval College. During this period Galaxidi knew enormous commercial growth and the prosperity of residents is still reflected in the well-preserved mansions that have become an attraction for hundreds of visitors each year. What to do Amongst the splendidly preserved houses of city we will distinguish the mansion Tsalagyra, that today hosts the Town Hall, the mansion Aggeli, that accommodates the Folklore Museum, the building of Parthenagogio and the mansion Mpourzeiko. One can also visit the Naval Mu- seum, which boasts an impressive collection of exhibits, the Archaeological Museum, the old stone Aqueduct of the 15th century, the temple of Saint Nikolaos from the historic Byzantine period with the two belfries and the carved wood chancel screen. Furthermore there is the temple of Agia Paraskevi with the solar clock and the Parthenagogio. In the Pera Panta of the harbour and along the coast line is a dense thicket that in the past used to host the traditional white windmills. Nowadays, only three remain. Galaxidi is also in close proximity to the ski centre of Parnassos, that operates in full capacity during the winter. Those with an adventurous spirit should not miss the natural cavern Spylia in the square of N. Mama, the Agkoni in the Ksirotyri hill and the Vitrina in Mesonisi. Alternati- vely, you can visit the archaeological town of Delphi and from there to Kroki and the Korikeio Cavern, where the god Panas was worshipped. One can still enjoy the enchanting nature walk in the forest of Cedars, in the Monastery of Sotira and in Bounichora. This quaint and beautiful coastal town of Fokida is only 200 km from Athens and 90 km from Patra. It constitutes an ideal vacation destination all year round.
