RESTAURANT Pyrgos restaurant - tavern is open since 1987 under the direction of its owners, Delios family. The food is homemade and you will have the chance to taste many traditional greek recipes. The tavern Pyrgos is situated in the central square of Avgonyma village. Pyrgos tavern has unique food such as handmade spaggetti, chicken with onions, spinach balls, etc. It is the only tavern that offers the traditional grill such as goat and porker. It also offers honey, oil, and olives which are produced by the family. AREA Avgonyma village lies in the middle of Chios Island. It is 20 Kilometers far from Chios town. Avgonyma uniquely combines the feeling of a mountainous settlement with a bird's eye view to the Aegean Sea. It is one of the most well-preserved fortified settlements with the typical structure of the west coast villages that were exposed to piracy. Near Avgonyma village, you can visit Anavatos. It is amphitheatrically built on a rocky mountain. It's natural fortification implys that it must have been built for defensive reasons during the piracy period. Houses are single-floored with a narrow front and built from grey stone. On the top of the village there is the church of Taxiarches with a typical two-aisled basilica style.
