KTIMA LEMONIES

LOCATION “Lemonies” is a 12.000m2 estate situated in the north-western part of the island of Andros, in the beautiful village of Lamyra, 1 km away from Chora, the neoclassical capital . It owes its name to the fifty or so lemon trees,(lemonies in greek), traditional source of wealth of the island. THE ESTATE The land is green, fertile and rich in running waters. The estate is full of cypress trees, oak trees, fruit trees(apricots, figs, prunes, quince, plums, mulberries and others ). Organic seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs are cultivated. Olive trees produce an organic tasteful oil, characterized by its dark green colour and low acidity. A 1.500 m2 vineyard gives every year about 500 kilos of Muscat grapes. You can accede to the estate either on foot from the old village path (5 min walk) or by car through a rural road. It is an ideal place to enjoy nature’s peacefulness and arouse your senses. Within the estate there are three sets of independent buildings. The central main building, made of local schist, hosting the living room, the dining room and the kitchen with a large veranda overlooking the estate and with a panoramic view towards the city of Andros and the sea. A group of old refurbished lodgings with two separate suites. And finally an independent lodging by the pool. All are fully equipped ( TV, standing fans, independent electric boards). Heating and hot water are provided for by a central boiler except for the pool lodging which has an electric heater. Mosquito screens are installed on all bedroom windows. A 22KVA generator can provide for the whole estate, the buildings and the swimming pool(2,5x7,00m) which can be heated. LIFE ON THE ESTATE The courtyard around which all buildings rotate is an ideal spot for reading and resting. So is the veranda during afternoons and evenings. The swimming pool is ideal for an early morning swim before breakfast which is served in the orchard, under the lemon trees. Guests can taste jams, sweats and marmelades produced on the spot as well as local products such as honey, cheese, free range eggs, freshly baked village bread. They can also help themselves with fruits and vegetables from the fields and taste the wine. The gardener is in every day, except Sundays, if you need any assistance as to what is available. . Yoga and meditation sessions can be organized following prior arrangement. FACILITIES . 1.500m2 vineyard which gives 500 kilos of muscat grapes every year. . Approximately 6000m2 of fertile land. Trees, seasonal fruits and vegetables are grown in a traditional manner. No insecticides are used and they are assisted only with organic fertilizers. With these we prepare sweets, jams and marmelades, drinks such as our very special Limoncello, sauces and more, available each season in limited quantities. . 2,50X7,00m. pool which can be heated. ACTIVITIES ON THE ISLAND Besides swimming, sailing and discovering the island, nature lovers can find in the surroundings wonderful hikes, trails and strolls across heathery aromatic hillsides, through ravines burbling with waters leading to picnic sites. One can also visit world class exhibitions in galleries and museums in Chora. Your hosts can advice you on what to visit and where to eat. They can also arrange for car rental which is recommended as Andros is a big island with a lot to see. HOW TO GET THERE From Athens international airport there is a 30 minute bus or taxi ride to the port of Rafina. The ferry takes maximum 2 hours(depending on the boat) to Gavrio, the port of Andros. It is then a 40 minute car ride (car rental, taxi, or local bus) to “Lemonies”, alongside the sea and through lovely picturesque villages.
