THE HISTORY Before the volcano’s explosion at 1650 BC, Santorini was a fertile island and an important commercial knot of Minoan civilization. The explosion destroyed it entirely. The island which was round was immersed beneath the sea surface and emerged again having its present shape with the creation of caldera. The noise of the explosion was heard so far as Egypt. The tidal waves destroyed the Minoan civilization. It is also believe that the Atlantis was immersed forever because of this very explosion!
